Makeover events, hosted in salons across the country, are giving women and men a chance to reconnect themselves and others in a nurturing environment and forget about cancer for a day. The charity is functioned by volunteer ambassadors and beauty professionals who donate their time and services to cancer sufferers in their communities. By providing head-to-toe beauty services, completely free of charge, the Glam Teams, up and down the country are empowering others and setting the stage for a national outreach.

Founder, Keely Webster, says, “We just want to flood the nation with happiness and celebration at a time when individuals and families need it most. Last year, we worked on a year long project to portray this happiness by collaborating with photographer, Anthony Neste. By photographing the genuine smiles of hundreds of ladies after their makeovers, we took a simple ‘life quote’ from each of them and created the book ‘105 Reasons To Smile’.

“105 Reasons To Smile is our first photographic art book that captures the real courage and power of women who have battled and who continue to battle cancer.” Says Anthony Neste, HBO-Sports Illustrated photographer from New York. “The book is a way to inspire and help other women starting their journey; and for them to know that they are not alone. In honor of my mother-in-law who passed from cancer, it became one of the most powerful pieces I have ever created.”

SGS volunteer and breast cancer survivor Lisa Amorosi, who is featured in the book says, “Whether or not they lost their hair, eyelashes, eyebrows or something as extreme as body parts, everyone in this book has been physically and emotionally stripped in one way or another. This amazing group of people took a piece of our journey and made us shine. From the makeup, hair, eyelashes, photos, conversation, laughter and hugs, we were made up to be the best version of our “new normal”.

‘105 Reasons To Smile’ will be released for purchase at the end of October from the official website (www.makingovercancer.org). If you would like to participate in a makeover day or host a beauty event, visit the website or email info@makingovercancer.org
