Learning About Immunotherapy in Cancer Treatment

For anyone who has been active in the cancer community during the last couple of years, you will have heard about the latest focus of cancer treatments that involve “immunotherapy”. Immunotherapy has been defined as “the prevention or treatment of disease with substances that stimulate the immune response”. Since that didn’t tell me very much, I needed to learn more about what is being done in this arena and how it affects every single one of us in the world of cancer if this science holds the key to the future.

It is incumbent upon each of us to be our own advocates and this is one of the best opportunities that we may have available to us to learn about what has become the center of research and treatment for cancer.Barbara JAcoby

I soon found so much information in so many articles spread across a vast number of sites that it became extremely difficult to gather everything together. Therefore, I was so pleased when I came across the information for The Cancer Research Institute’s Immunotherapy Patient Summit 2017 that I feel compelled to share this opportunity with everyone. And although the live events are being held in five major US cities, for those who are not able to attend the half-day seminars in person, you can register online to participate from your own home.

If you are wondering who should attend, it is suggested that people of all ages, cancer types, and stages are encouraged to participate. Caregivers, friends, family, and advocates are also welcome to join this important educational summit.

Topics to be discussed include:

  • Immunotherapy basics you need to know
  • Latest research update from the experts
  • Patient experience with immunotherapy,
  • Clinical trials (what they are, how to access them, and patient experiences)

Cancer specific breakout sessions

I would like to thank the Cancer Research Institute for providing this learning opportunity to all of us. And I also want to give a shout out of thanks to all of the Companies who are “sponsors” for these events and to all of my fellow “promotional partners” who have found this opportunity to be as important as I do.

It is my sincerest hope that everyone who sees this information will share it with others so that all of us can be better informed about this technology, as it exists today and what is on the horizon for the future. By keeping informed, we are in a much greater position to have discussions with our medical teams when making decisions about our treatment paths.

With so much new information being shared every single day, it is impossible for all of our medical practitioners to keep up to date on all of it with all of the demands of their practices and variety of medical conditions with which they are dealing. Therefore, it is incumbent upon each of us to be our own advocates and this is one of the best opportunities that we may have available to us to learn about what has become the center of research and treatment for cancer.
