Three years ago, a young lady that I had met on Facebook, Shannon McCarty Magee participated in an Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. She and her teammates wore team shirts with a display on the back that read “We Walk In Honor Of…” followed by a list of names that included my own name. I knew nothing about her plans to do this and only after the walk was completed did she share a photo of that shirt. I was overwhelmed. I made a copy of that photo, framed it and placed it on the desk in my office where it continues to inspire me every weekday when I go there.
Two years ago, when my husband Kirk ran in his first ever 10k, he did it in my honor and in the honor of other family members and friends who have dealt with cancer. He carried all of our names on his shirt and included the names of our social media friends who wanted to provide us with the names of those who they wished to honor. Now this idea has come full circle.[wc_row][wc_column size=”one-half” position=”first”]
We are participating in the STOP CANCER Run/Walk event at Woodley Park in Van Nuys, CA (just outside of Los Angeles) on September 28th on behalf of the Let Life Happen team. It is our desire to perpetuate this opportunity to honor those who have dealt with/are dealing with cancer. But, we need your help.
We would love for you to submit to us the names of your family members, friends, co-workers and acquaintances who have dealt with cancer. I am starting the list with the names of my father and brother who unfortunately lost their battles to lung cancer and renal cell cancer respectively but will grow that list with the names of our other friends and co-workers who we wish to honor who have each had to wage their own cancer battles. To this list, we would really like to add the names that you wish to submit of those that you wish to honor. This list of names that we will carry with us will be the inspiration that we really need in order to complete our mission.
It is simple to do. Just fill in the form at the bottom of this post and provide us with the names of the people who you would like to include or just send an email to Barbara@LetLifeHappen.com and provide us with the names of the people who you would like to include. We will be compiling a list on the Let Life Happen website for everyone to see and on the day of the race, you will know that your special people are helping to inspire the team that is working to help end cancer in every way that we know how and we are doing it for all of us.

But, remember, you do not have to contribute financially in order to contribute to our inspirational support list. And please know that we are most grateful for your input and support. Oh, and to those in the Los Angeles area, we would love to have you come out and join us. If you would like to join our team, please let us know. But even if you don’t want to participate in the race, it would really be fun to meet you if you are able to attend the event.
