What If Charlie Sheen Was a Part of Your Family?

I don’t think that I have been able to see a news show, an entertainment show or listen to a radio show this past week without seeing and hearing about Charlie Sheen’s current activities and interviews.  This actor who is best known for the show, “Two and a Half Men”, has spiraled out of control in recent months and now appears to be so disillusioned about who and what he is, that he believes that he can do anything and say anything that he wants because he is a star and has been able to heal himself by closing his eyes for a few seconds and making it so.

And then I began to feel sorry for Charlie!  How sad that a person who has had the opportunities that he has had to throw it all away.  He has taken the role in this TV series and extended it into his own life a thousand fold.  It appears that the drinking and drugs have now ruined his life completely.
His rants against the show’s creator, Chuck Lorre, among others, have resulted in CBS Entertainment and Warner Bros. Television cancelling the remainder of the shows for this season.  See the story.

At first, when I had heard all of the things that he has recently done and said, I was so shocked that I couldn’t believe that it was real.  After all, he is an actor and has been performing for a long time and I was beginning to believe that he was doing the same thing in his personal life just to get more attention and press.  But, as time passed and he was given additional venues in which to speak, it became evident that such is not the case.

It appears that he has become completely delusional and has lost all touch with the real world.  If you happen to see him on television and look into his eyes, there is an almost demonic glare staring back at you.  He thinks that he can get the cast and crew and the loyal fans of “his” television show to follow him in his uprising against the show’s producer and the networks that air his show because he is that great.  Obviously, he has lost complete touch with reality if he does not understand what he has done to all of those who were part of that series by taking away their livelihood.  In addition, if he believes that the world will not be able to go one without this show, he is totally lost.

And then I began to feel sorry for Charlie!  How sad that a person who has had the opportunities that he has had to throw it all away.  He has taken the role in this TV series and extended it into his own life a thousand fold.  It appears that the drinking and drugs have now ruined his life completely.  And to equate love with having sex with women who have such low self-esteem that they think that they are so fortunate to have a famous person like him be attracted to them really hurts me.  As has already been seen in the past, he will use and abuse these women and then throw them away.  So, everyone loses.

So what can be done to help Charlie?  Were he a member of my family, I would do everything possible to get the press to stop providing him with the opportunities to act out in public as he has been doing.  He is getting so much attention for his bad behavior that it makes it that much harder to get him to get help.  And then I would seek the help of professionals to figure out what a good course of action would be and if possible, gather the family to do an intervention.  There is no question that this man needs help but I don’t know what limits are imposed when an individual is an adult.  It certainly seems that every time that he gets into trouble, he has been able to buy his way out so that he has never had to suffer real consequences.  However, if something is not done to stop him soon, it won’t be long until we will be reading about his passing.  He is destroying himself as we all can see but evidently, until such time as he realizes that he needs help and that he can’t just heal himself by closing his eyes for 15 seconds to make it happen, he will continue to self-destruct.
