Social media campaign provides window into daily realities
From struggles with depression to the warmth of finding community, Living Beyond Breast Cancer’s “Hear My Voice” Class of 2017 will share their experiences living with metastatic breast cancer during a national social media campaign on Monday, March 26, 2018.
#BeyondtheBreast [http://www.lbbc.org/btb] is a one-day social media campaign that is an integral part of the curriculum of Living Beyond Breast Cancer’s (LBBC) “Hear My Voice” outreach and advocacy training program for people living with metastatic breast cancer. In a series of blogs and in social media, the group will educate the public about the range of emotions and experiences that come from being diagnosed with cancer that has spread from the breast to other parts of the body — a very different experience from those living with early-stage breast cancer. Selfies, stories and vlogs will be posted on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram about life with metastatic breast cancer. #BeyondTheBreast.
As part of the campaign, bloggers will share their personal experiences with:
- Receiving a metastatic breast cancer diagnosis out of the blue
- Having breast cancer spread to your bones
- Facing progression of the disease, physically and emotionally, while in treatment
- Participating in clinical trials and advocacy activities
- Traveling four hours round-trip to receive treatment
- Connecting with others who have metastatic breast cancer to avoid being alone
- Managing depression related to a metastatic breast cancer diagnosis
- Trying to live one’s best life with a terminal illness
Join the campaign and help spread the message and educate others about metastatic breast cancer. Take a selfie, write a blog, or share the stories of the Hear My Voice volunteers.
