Founded by the award-winning director and choreographer, Walter Painter, the home was built in memory of his mother, Nancy Painter.

³I remember my mother¹s dedication and commitment as a single mother who struggled but was highly motivated to keep herself and her children off the streets. As I became more accomplished as a director and choreographer I decided that I would like to give something back to the world that had allowed me to advance to my current life, ² said founder Walter Painter

The Nancy Painter Home is a non-profit organization that serves the Los Angeles region where over 70 percent of the homeless population in the county are mothers and their children. Services are offered to single mothers who apply and qualify through the Salvation Army. It is a unique program dedicated to provide the mothers and their children who find themselves in need of support due to spousal abuse, loss of job, medical emergency, or lack of child support, a stable and secure place to call home and resources necessary to obtain vocational training, employment, and permanent housing. http://www.nancypainterhome.org/

ABOUT THE NANCY PAINTER HOME:

The Nancy Painter Home for Mothers with Children is a community-based housing program devoted to single mothers and their children who are homeless or in danger of becoming homeless. It is a unique program dedicated to provide the mothers and their children who find themselves in need of support due to abusive relationships, loss of job, medical emergency, or lack of child support, a stable and secure place to call home.

Founded by the award-winning director and choreographer, Walter Painter, the home was built in memory of his mother, Nancy Painter.  As he states, ³I built this home for my mother, who tirelessly worked to keep us safe. Whatever we do I always ask myself, Œwould this be good enough for Nancy Painter. I never wanted a shelter environment, I want these mothers and children to find a place they can call home and find peace in.²

With the support of The Salvation Army, the families who are brought to The Nancy Painter Home are provided with the support and resources necessary to obtain vocational training, employment, and permanent housing. For up to two years the mothers and their children have the opportunity to bring stability and peace of mind to lives that were once in turmoil. The Nancy Painter Home has received recognition for their commitment and dedication to the community and recognition in honor from The California State Assembly, The Sate of California Senate, and founder Walter Painter and his wife have received recognition from The Congress of The United States House of Representatives.
