Women’s Retailer Offers Limited-Edition Scarf To Benefit Stand Up To Cancer

Chico’s announces the launch of a limited-edition scarf designed by artist and entrepreneur Sheila Johnson to support Stand Up To Cancer® (SU2C), a program of the Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF), a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization. Funds raised during this initiative will help accelerate SU2C’s innovative cancer research to get new therapies to patients quickly, and saves lives now.

“We’re thrilled to continue our important collaboration with Stand Up To Cancer and to join forces with powerhouse Sheila Johnson to help raise funds and awareness for such a worthy cause,” says Liz Hodges, Chico’s Senior Vice President of Customer Experience. “Stand Up To Cancer is a formidable organization that is pushing cancer research forward to an unprecedented degree. Chico’s, together with our customers, is proud to be able to contribute to such a dynamic effort.”

During the campaign, Chico’s will offer the limited-edition scarf, designed by Johnson. This scarf will be sold at Chico’s boutiques across the US and Canada, as well as online at www.chicos.com. Chico’s will donate $10 to Stand Up To Cancer (up to $100,000) for every scarf purchased from now through October 31st.

“I learned about Stand Up To Cancer many years ago and have been personally invested in this organization since it was started,” says Sheila Johnson. “I became involved because I’ve lost so many friends and close family members to cancer. Only research can answer why this disease touches so many, and research needs dollars to continue the fight.”

Stand Up To Cancer is changing the culture of cancer research through its unique funding model, which facilitates collaboration among scientists in different disciplines from different institutions. Over 940 researchers from 123 institutions in six countries are collaborating on SU2C-funded research.

“We are deeply grateful to Chico’s for helping raise awareness about Stand Up To Cancer among their customers all over the U.S. and Canada. We can each play a role in the fight against cancer,” said SU2C Co-founder Sherry Lansing.

About Stand Up To Cancer:
Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) raises funds to accelerate the pace of research to get new therapies to patients quickly and save lives now. SU2C, a program of the Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF), a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, was established in the United States in 2008 by film and media leaders who utilize the industry’s resources to engage the public in supporting a new, collaborative model of cancer research, and to increase awareness about cancer prevention as well as progress being made in the fight against the disease. As SU2C’s scientific partner, the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) and a Scientific Advisory Committee led by Nobel Laureate Phillip A. Sharp, PhD, conduct rigorous, competitive review processes to identify the best research proposals to recommend for funding, oversee grants administration, and provide expert review of research progress.
