    1. Thank you for your request but I do not send out any daily emails. All of my blogs and “In the News” segments are posted to my website and then shared out on the various social media platforms. All other info that I share is sent directly from social media since there is way too much very valuable material to be able to house it on the website.

  1. Hello!

For more than two decades, readers have relied on Dr. Susan Love’s Breast Book to guide them through the overwhelming thicket of research and opinion in order to find the best possible options for their particular situations.
The fully revised and updated sixth edition continues to provide invaluable guidance. Some of the new topics covered in the 6th edition:
    • How the long-term effects of chemo, radiation, and other treatments can be prevented or lessened
    • How younger survivors can maintain their fertility post-treatment
    • The various genetic tests available to pinpoint the exact type of breast cancer and tailor treatments to it
    • Studies revealing new links to diet, exercise, and environmental exposures
    • Research on whether there is a viral or bacterial connection to breast cancer
    • The questions patients can ask or the results that they might expect from new techniques like 3D mammography, whole breast ultrasound, and MRI’s

Dr. Susan Love is a clinical professor of surgery at UCLA and president of the Susan Love MD Breast Cancer Foundation. With her warm support, readers can sort the facts from the fads, ask the right questions, and recognize when a second opinion might be wise.

As a prominent blogger within the breast cancer community, we would value your help in any of the following ways: reviewing Dr. Susan Love’s Breast Book on your website or blog, posting the book cover on your website, and/or spreading the word via social media. Please let me know if I can help in any way.

    1. Thank you so much for your inquiry, John. I wanted to let you know that I am no longer writing for about.com as my contract with them was up at the end of April. However, all of my work whether it is the weekly blog, the daily “In the News” featured item, the daily stream of other news-worthy articles and my syndicated posts on The Huffington Post are always shared out through social media from my Let Life Happen and When Breast Cancer Happens sites through Twitter and Facebook and LinkedIn and Google+ so if we are connected there, you will receive the notifications. Again, thank you so much for contacting me. I truly appreciate your interest in the work that I am doing.

  3. Barbara,

I love to discover strong health care advocates…particularly ones that write as well as you do!

I’m writing to ask a favor: my wife, who is a radiation oncologist and breast cancer survivor, and I have a new book that is receiving very strong endorsements. We would be incredibly grateful if you could mention it in your blog. Here are a few of the comments we’ve received so far:

Daniel P. McKellar, MD, FACS, Chair, Commission on Cancer, stated: If you are a cancer patient, caregiver, or a cancer care provider, this is one book you must read! This is an excellent, comprehensive discussion of the journey a cancer patient takes once they hear “It’s Cancer”.

Julie M. Vose, M.D., President of ASCO: This book is a very complete and updated guide to the complex world of cancer diagnosis, care, and treatment. It will be helpful to many patients and families who are looking for additional information to supplement that provided by the healthcare system.

Richard Carmona, MD, MPH,FACS, 17th Surgeon General of The United States, stated: John and Lori Leifer have provided an insightful and compassionate navigation path from diagnosis to closure after you hear it’s cancer. Take the journey with them, it’s well worth it.

Ira Byock, MD, director of the Providence Institute for Human Caring; author of Dying Well and The Best Care Possible, stated: This hopeful, empowering book is worth giving to every person diagnosed with cancer.

My wife, and I wrote this book with one goal in mind — helping to ease the burden of what is often a very arduous journey for cancer patients and their families.

I would be happy to send you a digital press kit if it would be helpful. Lori and I would truly be grateful for your help.

    Many thanks,
    John

  4. Barbara – Better late than never, I suppose. Many, many months ago, you requested to be my friend on MySpace. I am seldom on that site, and after many months thought I would check in. You will not remember me, I’m sure, having crossed the paths of so many people since your request. I founded a 501(c)(3) to assist people battling a short-term illness. I also provide support services in the Library portion of our website. I say short-term, because unless you have purchased a specific policy or fortunate enough for an employer to provide one for you, short term disability is not available. Long term disability falls under our Social Security SSI program and once accepted, a person can usually find some assistance through them. The Ribbon Mosaic was set up to assist people with small grants to get through the time periods of surgery and treatments where people cannot work and fall behind on their bills. We are not yet up to the ability to provide such grants. But we are promoting awareness to the human element during a battle, to bring recognition to those who do not have the luxury of waiting for research to produce a cure. These are the people that fall through the cracks. We do not focus on a disease, but the human being regardless of the disease. Our website is growing, we are working on recognition for our organization and trying to establish credibility and validity. All hard work and endless piles of paperwork.

We were asked to partner with Missing Puzzle Piece in Phoenix, AZ for a Halloween event this month. The proceeds of this event will benefit three women in the Phoenix area who are battling cancer. These women are struggling financially, and we are glad to help however we can.

Both The Ribbon Mosaic and Missing Puzzle Piece focus on the human being – the Missing Puzzle Piece being inclusive to women with cancer, and The Ribbon Mosaic being all inclusive to any disease or gender. We are not about research for a cure but helping in the here and now. The Ribbon Mosaic comprises all the colors of awareness ribbons assigned to every disease – thus, Ribbon Mosaic. Both The Ribbon Mosaic and Missing Puzzle Piece strive to “keep the pieces together.”

Did not mean for this to turn into an advertisement for either group. Reminding you who you contacted and the reason you were interested in the first place. Your website is great. So glad you are sharing and reaching out to so many. Need many more like you. Great job.

    1. Thank you so very much for contacting me and sharing the information about the wonderful work that you are doing. I know that there are a couple of my “friends” who may very well need the type of assistance that you provide and now they have an opportunity to contact you through your post. I am honored to be able to share it here. I will continue to follow you as you continue to grow and expand your work and know that what you are doing is appreciated so much more than you will ever know. Thank you so much for your comments about my website and my efforts to reach out to others. It just reminds me that we are all in this together and doing the best that we can in our own way.

  5. picture or not, the thought of helping by trial and experience is lovely. when i commented on on your profile pic. i didn’t tell you what it said to me… there are two trees in the clearing, but what lies ahead is visible through a fog. the most important fact is… you are not alone, and with companionship and support, the future is in sight. as long as you have a support system, anything is within reach.

    thanks,
    shelly

  6. Hello there…
I wish you healing moments through this website :)))

PS: it would speak more directly to people…if you include
photos of yourself in this site…or have a link to another site with your photos 🙂
