Thank you so very much for contacting me and sharing the information about the wonderful work that you are doing. I know that there are a couple of my "friends" who may very well need the type of assistance that you provide and now they have an opportunity to contact you through your post. I am honored to be able to share it here. I will continue to follow you as you continue to grow and expand your work and know that what you are doing is appreciated so much more than you will ever know. Thank you so much for your comments about my website and my efforts to reach out to others. It just reminds me that we are all in this together and doing the best that we can in our own way.

Barbara - Better late than never, I suppose. Many, many months ago, you requested to be my friend on MySpace. I am seldom on that site, and after many months thought I would check in. You will not remember me, I'm sure, having crossed the paths of so many people since your request. I founded a 501(c)(3) to assist people battling a short-term illness. I also provide support services in the Library portion of our website. I say short-term, because unless you have purchased a specific policy or fortunate enough for an employer to provide one for you, short term disability is not available. Long term disability falls under our Social Security SSI program and once accepted, a person can usually find some assistance through them. The Ribbon Mosaic was set up to assist people with small grants to get through the time periods of surgery and treatments where people cannot work and fall behind on their bills. We are not yet up to the ability to provide such grants. But we are promoting awareness to the human element during a battle, to bring recognition to those who do not have the luxury of waiting for research to produce a cure. These are the people that fall through the cracks. We do not focus on a disease, but the human being regardless of the disease. Our website is growing, we are working on recognition for our organization and trying to establish credibility and validity. All hard work and endless piles of paperwork.

We were asked to partner with Missing Puzzle Piece in Phoenix, AZ for a Halloween event this month. The proceeds of this event will benefit three women in the Phoenix area who are battling cancer. These women are struggling financially, and we are glad to help however we can.

Both The Ribbon Mosaic and Missing Puzzle Piece focus on the human being - the Missing Puzzle Piece being inclusive to women with cancer, and The Ribbon Mosaic being all inclusive to any disease or gender. We are not about research for a cure but helping in the here and now. The Ribbon Mosaic comprises all the colors of awareness ribbons assigned to every disease - thus, Ribbon Mosaic. Both The Ribbon Mosaic and Missing Puzzle Piece strive to "keep the pieces together."

Did not mean for this to turn into an advertisement for either group. Reminding you who you contacted and the reason you were interested in the first place. Your website is great. So glad you are sharing and reaching out to so many. Need many more like you. Great job.

picture or not, the thought of helping by trial and experience is lovely. when i commented on on your profile pic. i didn't tell you what it said to me... there are two trees in the clearing, but what lies ahead is visible through a fog. the most important fact is... you are not alone, and with companionship and support, the future is in sight. as long as you have a support system, anything is within reach.

thanks,
shelly

Thank you for your kind wishes. I do understand about posting photos but I must say that I really dislike having my picture taken. My husband even gave me a new camera for my birthday last month in order to push me in that direction. When/if I have a picture of me that I like, it will be posted. In the meantime, I have chosen the pixs that you see on the site as they are so beautiful to me.
