The Magic of Music

Music Feature 300x191 The Magic of Music Yesterday when I got up a little earlier than usual, I didn’t want to wake up my husband who is a night owl, so I decided to put on a head set and listen to some music. As I listen to the radio to and from work all week, I decided to choose something different so I went to Pandora and typed in an artist’s name and so began a mix of songs from similar artists from my past. The interesting thing that happened is that a huge smile came across my face as I began to sing along and even found myself so moved that I had to get up and dance a bit, too. I listened for several hours and when I got up to

I truly believe that my favorite music can always transform my spirit and carry me to a better place at any given moment. I believe that this will work for anyone who chooses to join me in this endeavor and I believe that we will all be so much happier as individuals than we may have been for a very long time.

begin my day today, I was drawn to repeating that same process.

I suddenly became very aware of what was happening inside of me. I felt happy and light and so much younger. I was taken back to a time when I didn’t have the stress and worry and pressures of the present day. It wasn’t that I was reminded of anyone or anything in particular but rather that sense of freedom that only exists in a past that is recalling only the happy times. I loved that music of my youth. I knew the words to just about every song and delighted in singing and dancing along as I had done all of those years ago. I was feeling a freedom that seemingly doesn’t exist in my current life and to be able to escape to that time for awhile changed my outlook on the whole rest of the day.

I remember how this works. How many times have I been in the company of someone else when a song from their past came on the radio or TV and their entire face is immediately transformed. They, too, have gone to a time and a place inside of themselves that speaks of happy times and fun and freedom. Their entire demeanor has changed and even after the song has ended, there is an expression of softness on their faces and lingering smiles that seem to make their way into the present regardless of whatever they are doing. And unlike in the past, with the age of computers and the internet, we are in a position to listen to all of the music that we want from any time in our lives. We can recreate those feelings of joy and carefree living at the push of a couple of buttons.

I have decided to call this the magic of music. I have also decided that whenever I start to feel stressed or sad or unmotivated, I am going to tune in to some of my favorite music and allow for a transformation to take place. I want to be able to have a smile on my face regardless of whatever else may be happening and I truly believe that my favorite music can always transform my spirit and carry me to a better place at any given moment. I believe that this will work for anyone who chooses to join me in this endeavor and I believe that we will all be so much happier as individuals than we may have been for a very long time. There has always been magic in music and that is why it has endured. However, for so many of us, it has taken a back seat to TV and movies and gaming and so many other things. Maybe just listening to one song from your past will bring back wonderful feelings inside and how fortunate we are that we can re-create those feelings at any time we choose.

I love this post! I have always believed in the”magic of music”! When I’m down music can really be like therapy for me. I especially love listening to the old songs I used to love. I grew up during the disco genre so I love to dance and sing to the old songs. I made a CD of disco songs and I will turn it up and dance to the music while I’m watching the Today Show. I can hear both and I can exercise, listen to great music, hear what the news of the day is AND DANCE! This is always a great start to my day. I haven’t done it in a while but I think tomorrow morning is going to be one of those days. Thanks for sharing Barbara!
